Bred for Cuban aristocracy in the 19th century, the Havanese is intelligent and – as such – highly trainable. Havanese are nicknamed “Velcro™ dogs” because they like to stick close to their owners. They may need to be socialized a bit but once they've been socialized, they do quite well as service dogs and with children. They're small dogs that do well in apartment dwellings… they don't need a lot of outdoor exercise. They're happy and playful and like to learn new tricks.
